London 1890: Scotland
Yard has failed to catch a thief targetting West End
hotels, and Anastasia the Ape has escaped from London
Zoo. Herlock Sholmes sets out to apprehend the
criminal, disguised as a dog. After a run-in with the
dog catcher, he returns home. Dr Jotson ushers in
Sergeant Wimpey, who has been sacked by Inspector
Jagger for not apprehending the thief. Sholmes agrees
to help him get his job back. |

Holmes deduces that the
hotel thief is Tony Ricardo, recently escaped from
prison and owner of the escaped ape, Anastasia. He
sends Dr Jotson to stay at the Happidore Hotel
disguised as a rich American. Sholmes waits outside
the hotel disguised as an ornamental palm. |

Dr Jotson is gassed by
Anastasia the Ape, and a bill sticker disrupts
Sholmes's vigil. Sholmes finds Jotson unconscious, but
after they leave the hotel, they spot Ricardo's cart. |

Sholmes disguises
himself as a horse and takes the place of Ricardo's
cart-horse, Narcissus. |

Sholmes is on the trail
of three escaped convicts. Disguised as a sheep, he
obtains a secret note. His enquiries at Scotland Yard
turn up suspiciously missing records. From Inspector
Wimpey, he learns that they refer to a bank robbery.
Later, he reads that Trent and his team, the gang he
has been investigating, have escaped from jail. |

Still on the trail of
the escped prisoners, Sholmes is disguised as a ghost.
He sees Dr Duffer showing Inspector Jagger his
lifelike statues, which, after the inspector leaves,
are revealed to be truly alive. He follows the men
through the park, but is mistaken by the police for a
criminal, and Duffer's men escape in a carriage. |

Lisa Potter is being held prisoner on
an abandoned boat in New York harbour, while Herlock
Sholmes, Dr Jotson and the Pinkertons are searching
the city for her. Two Pinkertons men searching the
harbour are doped by the kidnappers. Sholmes and
Pinkerton find the drugged men. |
